I really hate to burst anyones bubble about this FB messenger boycott. BUT for a few years now the NSA has had the technology/ability to: 1.Remotely turn on any phone with a battery in it using only radio waves. 2.Turn on the microphone of that phone and stream audio without any knowledge of the user 3.Access the GPS location services of that phone permanently afterwards The app requires those permissions because it has the same capabilities as Skype or facetime in that it uses VOIP. If you use any website, app, or online database -ANY information there is accessible by whomever administers the server to that network. EVERYTHING you do on a phone or computer is traceable period. You are not doing yourself any favors. If someone wants your data they will get it, app or no app.
