I really want to share this quote with those who concern about their heavenly rewards and I hope it may clarify some of the misunderstandings....I used to struggle anxiously about my eternal gains, but I realize such selfishness is exactly the opposite to the meaning of salvation. Rather to concern about my eternal gains, the point of the reward is that how much I understand the meaning of giving myself away to others as way of love, and precisely in such selfless giving, I receive my rewards and therefore the fulfillment of my love for others. What is the greatest treasure for Christians than Love, and what is better than living in such Love, the relentless giving of ourselves away. The more we give, the more we are happy. Such principle should help us to see the meaning of heavenly reward, and here is the quote. "Perhaps such reflections should encourage us, not so much to consider this way or that privileged in the Church, but rather to recognize the task of enlarging the vessel of our own life. But once again, this enlargement is not meant to ensure that in the world to come we have the largest barn possible in which to store our wealth, but rather to be able to distribute all the more to our fellows. In the communion of the body of Christ, possession can only consist in giving, the riches of self-fulfillment in the passing on of gifts." Joseph Ratzinger Eschatology Death and Eternal Life P.236
