I recd a few questions from actors today asking for tips on casting. First off, when I cast something I WANT the actor trying out to be great. It isnt adversarial so try not to be nervous. Confidence is a plus and if youre really nervous, we understand and take that into consideration. We want to find the best person and when the actor does well, it makes our job easier. Also, please update your headshots so you are recognizable. Nothing like getting worthless headshots that are ten years old. Ive often made life-long friends during casting sessions. Be able to do cold readings so practice. Ive dealt with people who can cry on demand, do a great monologue and for call-backs they are completely lost when I ask them to do something new. This amounts to a waste of time. Practice your craft and having a great fun attitude is critical. Ive had actors hang out in open auditions just to watch the improv Ive asked others to do. Casting can be really fun for everyone involved. It is exciting to hear the words come to life (assuming theyre well-written)! Rock on!
