I received a message that really moved me. This person used to be homophobic, but not in a hateful, mean way. I just didnt know anyone gay and didnt have gay friends. This person also had a serious dislike of the homeless. They thought that all homeless people were either lazy or emotionally disturbed. They didnt realize what gay teens go through and they said that reading the post about the gay teen raped on Thanksgiving day put me over the edge. I felt a depression and guilt that I had not known. I realized how wrong I had been and how much more I needed to know, and do I wont share this persons name but I will commend them because although they admitted that my posts sometimes bothered me(them). One person cannot have that much faith and compassion. (LOL) They still kept reading and they stayed connected. And this is exactly what our hope for our Days of Compassion is - that as a community we start to be more understanding, more patient, and more connected so that we understand the bigger issues our communities face that do not start and with animals, but that as a result, certainly do impact animals, children, teens and families. I just shared our Januarys Day of Compassion event for the third weekend in January, but already we have volunteers and people in love with the concept, busy collecting donations and volunteering to drive their car in our Caravan of Compassion.... I hope to see you that day.
