I received a phone call from a woman in Cutler Bay (Miami) today. She has witnessed a dog hanging around her apt. complex for a couple of weeks. The dog hides underneath cars and people feed her but evidently she was dumped there. She doesnt have a microchip or Tag. So today this woman noticed that the dog had been hit by a car. Her leg was shredded. She took her to the Vet and they said the leg might have to be amputated. They were not sure the leg could be saved. They wanted her to pay them $1,500.00. She doesnt have any money and as she says, This isnt my dog. She also told me that she thought the dog had vomited a little bit of blood. The Vet tech said it wasnt blood, but then changed their mind and said it might be. The Vet bill so far is $350.00. Someone who was at the Vets office today donated $100.00 so now she owes $250.00. She wants us to take the dog (or anyone else) but she wants to be reimbursed $250.00. If we cannot give her the money she says she will wait until she finds someone who will. I think she should have called a Rescue Group immediately before getting involved with a Vet bill. ARGH! Her Vet is closed now and I do not know what her plans are for the dog. I guess she is going to keep searching for someone who can reimburse her the $250.00 before she releases the dog; meanwhile this poor dog is suffering. She has the dog in her custody and the dog is on pain meds with a shredded broken leg. I am beside myself.
