I received a postcard today from Americans for Prosperity. You - TopicsExpress

I received a postcard today from Americans for Prosperity. You know, the Koch brothers front group. Many of you probably received the same post card. The card tries to scare folks by leading them to believe that Medicare benefits are going to be slashed if you vote for Bruce Braley. The card says in large print, Congressman Bruce Braley voted to cut Medicare by $716 billion to fund Obamacare. In extremely small print, the postcard cites an article as proof of this contention. So, I decided to actually read the article cited by the Koch brothers. The article itself says that if Obamacare was repealed it would cost taxpayers an additional $716 billion in increased Medicare costs by the year 2022. The article then outlines how under Obamacare there are cost saving reductions (or cuts) in the growth of future administrative costs. The article concludes by saying, theres one area these cuts wont touch: Medicare benefits. And, then for good measure the article adds that the Ryan (Republican) budget proposal would maintain these very same cuts (i.e. administrative cost savings). So, rather than cutting Medicare benefits, it turns out that the article cited says that without reducing benefits, Obamacare will save taxpayers $716 billion in administrative costs. And, oh by the way, the chief Republican budget writer, has proposed in his budget, that he thinks we should do the exact same thing. You know, there are plenty of issues for people to disagree about, Obamacare included. But the level of intellectual dishonesty as displayed by the Koch brothers and others on this issue is disgusting. If you have $84 billion dollars, and can use as much of that money as you would like to buy elections, you should at least have to tell the truth.
