I received a reply regarding ID Cards for foreigners, I find it a must-to-know so I am posting it here. Further to your request hereunder, and according to the Department of Citizenship and Expatriate Affairs, you may wish to note that as from 2013, no ID cards are being issued to foreigners. The residence document serves the purpose of an identification document. In this regard, the residence document issued to foreigners (EU nationals, legal migrants and those granted asylum) except in the case of asylum seekers and failed asylum seekers, are issued with a residence document in electronic plastic format by the said department . In accordance with EU legislation, asylum seekers or failed asylum seekers cannot be issued with such a document. On the other hand, failed asylum seekers and asylum seekers are issued with a document by the Police Immigration Office entitled “Identification Document” which has, in accordance with the Identity Card Act, to be accepted by Authorities as an Identification Document. The Police Immigration Office does not apply the arrangements referred to by your kind self.
