I received an email with the subject line message An Urgent Call to Action from Paul McCartney. Of course I was curious and followed the link where Paul urged me to observe meat-free Mondays as a means to protect our climate. While I appreciate Pauls concern, to my eye and ear his video sounds a tad like Ringo...I kept waiting for him to say peace and love about nine or 10 times. Dont get me wrong -- I am definitely on board with doing things to help slow down climate shift and lowering greenhouse gases...but this meat-free thing strikes me as extremely flawed logic in this regard: - Livestock-emitted methane is one of the largest single sources but rice farming produces nearly as much methane and termites produce more methane. - The less meat that I eat the more livestock will remain alive to produce methane. - The more meat I eat the fewer livestock animals there are to produce methane. - The less meat I eat the more brocolli, greens and cucumbers I eat causing ME to produce more methane...and I am ahead of my quota as it is. Therefore I will continue to eat meat on Mondays and believe that I can safely say my case for doing so is proven. Quod erat demonstrandum. In fact, I am planning to have veal parmesean for dinner. ;)
