I received many inbox messages and emails after this went up so I figured a re-post makes sense... I cant wait for the day that Social Media Marketing is recognized as something permanent in regards to marketing and not a quick fix or expected to bring instantaneous success. Its long term and ongoing; ever evolving and only is effective with a solid brand/product and marketing campaign behind it. I give it three or four more years before this transition is understood. Still too premature. I also wish that people would understand in relation to Social Media that likes= nothing. Quality over quantity. 5 million people following a brand means nothing if majority are following for the wrong reasons. 50 solid followers can yield you more business than you could imagine if they are brand advocates/loyal versus 5 million wrong ones. Perception for most is way off! Like someone just reminded me...80/20 rule still applies even with Social Media Marketing. 80% of your success probably comes from 20% of your contacts/customers...or even less! ...I am speaking from the standpoint of a business or brand that is trying to grow from the bottom up. They arent trying to monetize with sponsorships they are just looking to grow and eventually reap some return and obviously they need the exposure but in the right/targeted way. A bunch of likes that isnt specific to their demographics isnt going to provide them with anything in the end. They need the followers to actually want to follow and then buy not just follow to follow. Even if someone buys because they see a bunch of followers isnt efficient or sustainable unless the brand is legit to begin with. OR I am speaking from the fitness model standpoint that has nothing to monetize from at all and just wants a bunch of followers. From a general business standpoint if someone is truly looking to have sustainable success and return they are going to benefit from the right followers and not the random (wrong) ones. Buying fake followers or driving a bunch of likes just to aesthetically appeal is counter productive in the end. Also too you and I understand engagement. So if the account has a high amount of likes but no engagement then that is useless as well. So its all encompassing but in general people over focus on likes as numbers/popularity rather than proper monetization and effective marketing that has an end goal that = money.
