I received sad news today that my great aunt passed away at 91 years old. She was a wonderful woman that lived a very full life. She never married or had children of her own, but she took care of the family business, and cared for both of her parents when they grew old. She died in the house she was born in, which her father built. Sadly her sister and sister-in-law both passed away at a young age leaving six children without a mother, all of which she also took care of, including being a very active part in the lives of her 4 other nieces and nephews and then years later, all of her great nieces and nephews. I think she bought all of us our first cars, and most of us lived with her at some point in our young lives either during a break-up or transition from home to home. I lived with her when I was 26 and she taught my dog how to fetch. :) She had amazing open house Christmas parties on Christmas day and her home would be filled with at least 80 people. She was blessed with being financially secure and I know that without her generosity, many people in the family would not have had the opportunity to buy their first homes, start a business, get married, or go to college. She was truly the anchor and savior in our family and we will all miss her immensely. That being said, although I will be working, I will be taking a few hours off here and there over the next three days.
