I received the best Christmas presents ever...purpose and inspiration. I had the opportunity to visit a former patient who is certainly spending her last Christmas here on Earth and whose impending death most would consider untimely and painful. I told her that I would never forget her and that she inspired me. I gave her both my personal and professional promise to never stop trying to raise awareness, increase options, and hopefully improve outcomes for people like her. After that I stopped by the Calgary Drop In Center to drop off a few necessities for people less fortunate. They say that most people arent further away from that situation than a paycheck or two. It seemed busy there, and I guess thats both good and bad. It was important for me to see where and how things could go...(and a sad shake of the head...all a friend can say is aint it a shame). Then I came home to a warm house and loving family and ate a huge couple helpings of turkey dinner, and realized again how fortunate I am. I only hope that on Christmas Day, regardless of what you believe, that everybody had the chance to be warm and fed and with people who love them. Peace on Earth.
