I received the following e-mail from Bob Cowell, Assistant City Manager - Development Services You have a new contact request From : [email protected] Subject : Animal Management & Welfare Director Search Message Body : Judi, Sorry for sending this email through your business but it was the only email contact for you that I had. As you know we are in the process of initiating our search for a new Director of Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare (formerly Animal Control). A significant component of this search is the preparation of recruitment materials. An element of these materials is adequately capturing the characteristics the City is looking for in the new Director. As a part of this process, the City has requested that our consultant (SGR) conduct a number of focus groups with various parties to solicit from them their suggestions for preferred characteristics. One of the groups will consist of community stakeholders and interested parties (this will be in addition to groups consisting of City management and staff and partners –such as the Animal Control Board, the Health District Board, and the Humane Society). As someone that has been involved for a number of years with pets and most recently with the shelter operations, I am interested in seeing if you would be willing to participate in this focus group. The group would meet for an hour at City Hall on July 17th at 1:00 pm. The group will probably consist of 5-6 representing a variety of interests. If you are interested but unable to make this time please let me know and I will see if other arrangements can be made. Your participation is encouraged and I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Bob I attended this meeting along with several of my animal activist friends plus reps from SPCA and Shea White. SGR had a representative present also. The meeting was a very positive one. There were many brilliant suggestions made and concerns addressed. I was impressed that no one from the city was sitting in on this meeting as the group was able to voice past and present concerns to what I feel was a company who is 100% interested in finding a director who will provide the homeless pets in Amarillo a compassionate leader to not only raise adoptions but lower the eu rate. Please be aware. SGR in no way sugarcoated the fact that this search may be a difficult one due to the size of our city and the location. Many times qualified candidates are unwilling to make the move due to family or a spouse having a career. I know of a person who lives right here in Amarillo that I feel could be that perfect director. So when the time comes to make the decision on a compassionate director who not only has the ability to embrace new programs to save the pets, motivate employees, work with volunteers and animal rescues, plus show the citizens of Amarillo that 90% of the homeless pets will walk out the front door of the shelter....I think we may have our next director right here under our nose
