I received this email from this student about disability justice: Hi, My name is Akemi Nishida. I am a graduate student at the City University of New York as well as a disability justice activist and engage in care works. I am working on a project to gain better understanding of care taking and receiving. For the project, I am looking for disabled people who receive daily physical care (e.g., getting help to take a shower) who can share their stories with me. Particularly, I am inviting several disabled people (who hire their care takers) to have group conversations and engage some activities about care (all the conversations and activities will be accessible). Due to the lack of funding, I can pay you only $10 for each group conversation (there will be two of them). Snacks will be offered during the conversations. What you will be asked is to attend two gatherings (physically or through internet). Each gathering will last two hours. During the first gathering, you will be asked to bring a few things that represent ‘care’ to you. Then, as a group, you will talk what each of you have brought and talk more about your experiences of care receiving and giving. For the second gathering, we will do a craft activity (it can be anything from poems, drawings to storytelling) and talk about each other’s craft (if you feel comfortable sharing), and talk more about care and how the care needs influence you and your family. There will be five participants at each gathering. All five participants receive daily physical care. If you are receive daily care from paid care providers and are interested in this, please e-mail me (anishida922@gmail) or call me at 267-528-7478. I am committed to meet all the participants’ accessible needs. Please contact me, and we will communicate how I can make the gathering accessible to you. Thanks, Akemi Nishida
