I recently acquired this postcard of the Hinton Jct Truck Stop and Cafe. I was raised on a farm a couple of miles east of this business near the Pony Bridge. My Dad ran a milk truck route then. That was when milk was still hauled to the plant in cream cans... When I would ride with him, we would always go into the restaurant, sit at the counter on the bar stools and I would look up at the variety of canned soups stacked in a neat pyramid, always spinning round and round on the stool, and ALWAYS ask my Dad if I could try the oyster soup. And ALWAYS he said no. I dont know why a 6 year old would desire oyster soup but I bet my Dad knew what my taste buds would tell me. LOL... The biggest treat was when we got to the milk plant and the workers always gave me a container of super cold milk. I was in heaven ! We lived right next to 66, so our means of making pop money was scouring the roadsides, picking up returnable pop bottles ( I believe they were 2 cents at that time ). When we had enough, off we would go the the Hinton Junction to trade our ares for a new pop and a snickers candy bar. We would have the old double galvanized wash tubs filled with empties. Lots of great memories of 66.. :)
