I recently attended a two-day summit at The Cumberland Hotel in London which held from September 12 - 13. Being a part of this summit enabled positive engagement with stakeholders and professionals at the Real Estate Investment and Mortgage Finance in Nigeria (REIMFIN) seminar which was organized by Global Homes Magazine (UK) in collaboration with Housing Circuit Magazine (Nigeria). My position as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Lands, Housing and Urban Development drives the need for positive engagement with key players in housing, real estate development and management and the built environment. I share the assertion of the organizers that it is necessary to create platforms where stakeholders in the industry and investors can network. There is no doubt about it that the Nigerian real estate sector is booming and investors especially Nigerians in Diaspora need to learn where the opportunities are. I believe that it is time to seek platforms that can begin to answer questions such as: How do we build a close relationship among participants towards building new business partnerships in the new Nigeria Mortgage Refinancing Company (NMRC)? How can people begin to effectively access mortgage in Nigeria? How do we expose real estate investment opportunities in Nigeria to the outside world? How do we provide an avenue where participants can network and exchange ideas so that they can understand the realities of mortgage financing in Nigeria and take advantage of the schemes in place?
