I recently changed jobs. I have always done my best to give a two-week notice when I leave an employer and that is what I did in this situation. My employer was down to one full-time driver w/o me, so I told my new to be employer that I would like to give a two-week notice. He said okay, but to come on in any time if they decided to let me go when I gave notice. My manager didnt want me to leave, but when he contacted HR, they told him to have me leave immediately. (This was their normal practice, but I was unaware of it). He did - I was fortunate that my to be employer was ready for me to come on to work for him. What if i had set a definite date for two weeks and could not financially afford two-weeks off w/o paychecks, as it is in so many cases anymore? I am so wanting our labor-laws to be updated so that employers have to abide by the same rules.
