I recently decided to base a character in a story I am writing on - TopicsExpress

I recently decided to base a character in a story I am writing on my dad. Yes it may be cliche, and yes, sometimes it is over bearing and a stretch. I know, I edit and read a ton. So I started anyway, and after a thousand words, i figured out a few things, I made the right choice, and damn...my dad lived a colorful life. Him and his friends are almost writing themselves, little effort, but man...tons of fun memories. I lost him four years ago. I spent three years sorta masking the feelings, not thinking about it. So I decided about a year ago to do this, and I thank Paul Bishop for allowing me to use the perfect canvas. But I have to say, as I write, I find myself, not only constantly amazed, but in the best spirits as I think about what a wonderful life my dad lived, and also what he gave up to raise me. He didnt have experience since his dad left him at 5, but still, he understood what was important. He wasnt perfect, but I always wanted to make him happy. Am I bragging...HELL YES I AM. I was blessed but didnt know it. I had a man who despite being scared to death of a family, and having no understanding of what a dad should be, and mind you, he was only 18 when i popped into the world, understood that all that mattered, was me and my mom...and you know what...he was more than adequate!!!
