I recently discovered that I have a BHC in my family and have tried to find information relating to his life since leaving England. Unfortunately, I cannot find anything beyond his Army attestation papers (3 of them, 1 of which was completed using an Alias!) I havent had any luck in finding a Marriage or a Death record in Canada or here in the UK. Can anyone help please? Here is what I have found so far..... Calvert Clarkson - Son of Charles Calvert & Catherine Clarkson DOB - 1900 - July/Aug/Sept Durham 10A 889 1901 Census - aged 9 months living with parents at 43 Wear Street, Jarrow, South Shields 1907 - Calvert’s Father, Charles Calvert dies - Durham April/May/June 10A 493 1911 Census - aged 11, residing at Dr Barnardo’s, Stepney, London His elder brother Charles is also listed here and is listed as an Apprentice Printer The Census was taken on the night of Sunday 2nd April 1911 1911 - 29th June. Set sail for Canada on Board the ship Sicilian. Destined to work on a farm in Toronto, Ontario. 1916 - 20th May. Joins the Canadian Over-sea’s Expeditionary Force in the 136th Overseas Battalion. Regimental No 802767. His DOB is recorded as 13th June 1898. He gives his Mothers details as his Next of Kin and her address in the UK 1916 - 28th December. Joins the Canadian over-sea’s Expeditionary Force in the Canadian Army Medical Corps. Regiment No 528050. His DOB is recorded as August 13th 1898 - 2 years earlier than his actual birth in 1900. He was just 16 years old. He gives his Mothers name as his next of kin and her address. 1917 - March 19th. Calvert enlists with the 2nd Cent Ont Reg Depot - Regimental number is documented as 226905 in Hamilton Ontario. He has enlisted using an alias of Alfred Tickner and has given his DOB as 13th Feb 1899, although there is a hand written note on the top of the page stating “born June 13th 1900, Birth Certificate Registrar, South Shields, England. His next of Kin is given as Kate Tickner (Mother) of 22 Richard Street, Jarrow on Tyne, England (same address in all 3 attestations). He states his occupation as a Labourer and states that he has had NOT previously served in any Military Force.
