I recently had a player at a boardgame meetup decline a game just because it used cards. I like games as a whole and see cards just as a platform, a medium for games. Theres even games that mainly use cards and I wouldnt consider card games (ex: The Resistance, Havana, Coup) because you dont handle them too much during gameplay other than look at them once and there is not that much randomness to deal with. As a designer, cards are handy because theyre so easy to prototype and transport. Im working on two right now. That said, I never thought people would pass a game just because the components are cards. Are there a lot of people like this? If so, are there any card games which you would play because they dont feel like a card game? [Full disclosure: I started the same thread on reddit and this started discussions with really good insights: reddit/r/boardgames/comments/2oyfxt/no_thanks_i_dont_like_card_games/]
