I recently posted a photo of some habanero peppers I had raised on my personal fb wall and was noting about the recipes I was planning for them when Darlene Costello Fritz noticed the cabinet wood in the background and asked for a full view. How’s this relate to the Meadows? Well about 1981 I was driving past the dump area on 63rd St near Essington (old Industrial Hwy) and the carcass of this hoosier cabinet caught my eye. Unabashed, I pulled my old Mercury four-door to the side and loaded half on the roof and the other half in the trunk and after about two months of part time restoration I had a fine piece of amish cabinetry. Maybe it was the economic conditions of the Meadows during the fifties or my family’s mantra of waste-not-want-not that always kept my eye close to the curb but I’ve rescued more than my share of treasures from discards. Is this a Meadows thing that we should keep to ourselves or is rooting around in trash clinically treatable?
