I recently received some upsetting news. I was selected for a short unaccompanied assignment to Turkey for 15 months. For my non military friends, that means that I go by myself while my family stays here in New Mexico. Although this isnt something that I volunteered for and never imagined would happen, I have always known it was a possibility because Im in the military. If I turn down the assignment, I would be forced to separate just short of 18 years in service, without my retirement and without my GI Bill that I transferred to the kids. Our future plans are based off of those two things, so unfortunately I will have to go. I have had a rough time since I found out but have finally accepted it and have started making plans to help my family make it through this rough time. I dont leave until the fall. Lots of things can and will happen between now and then. Please keep us all in your thoughts and prayers.
