I recently returned from vacation in Italy which was a semi-work trip for my wife. We were able to combine our passions of art, travel and orthopedics while at the Salvatore Ferragamo exhibit in Florence. Many of you ladies probably recognize his name as he created a long line of shoes with a focus on inserting a steel shank into the footplate to unload the pressure points, specifically the arch. A quote from Mr. Ferragamo, ...when the foot is inside the shoe, it is imprisoned like a bird in a cage. If that is so, does this imprisonment affect the arch? Then this means that the arch must be supported. Deep stuff! -Dr. Holmes
