I recently sent this email to all of the mayors of Jeffco cities and chambers. Ive decided to share it with FB friends - I dont know if the links will come through, if not, PM me and I can simply email it to you. Here it is: I would like to invite you to attend the next Jeffco Public Schools Board of Ed meeting, currently scheduled for Thursday, June 19th. Among other topics, the June 19 Board meeting will be the second public hearing and adoption of the districts 2014-2015 budget. I understand attending Jeffco Board of Ed meetings seems like a very boring way to spend an evening, but if folks like yourself do not pay attention, we will see more actions taken like this vote June 5th to push through a total compensation package of $280,000 for an unproven and under qualified superintendent. Do you know he has no Doctorate? Do you know he was President of Charter School board? Or that his experience as a PE teacher and football coach exceeds his experience as an Assistant Superintendent, where he was responsible for 1/3 the students of Jeffco and 18 schools (as opposed to Jeffcos 154 schools) for 3 years? And yet he will make nearly 40% more than out-going Superintendent Cindy Stevenson? What do you know about the financial decisions made by the board majority? Do you know they approved a (3v2) $400,000 loan to Collegiate Academy Charter School that was yellow flagged on the districts financials? And that they also loaned $250,000 to another Mount Phoenix charter school that was red flagged on the districts financials? Do you know about the decision not to appeal the courts decision on 2090 Wright Street which cost the district a $900,000 valued property asset, set a precedent that could negatively impact the Rooney Ranch Elementary neighborhood, and ultimately adversely impact near $15 million of the districts assets? Are you aware of the board majoritys decision not to honor the promises made by the district and previous board during the 3A/3B campaign, designating $3.7 million for charter school equalization? Are you aware of the board majoritys decision not to honor the agreement made by the previous board should there be additional funding from the state, teachers and staff would be given an increase.youtube/watch?v=ZcJauBHS1CI What do you know about the lack of transparency in this board majoritys decisions? Do you know about their violation of the states Sunshine Law when they hired Board attorney Brad Miller? Or the fact that two (minority) board members have yet to see any work product that has been provided by Mr. Miller? Do you know they may have also violated the states Sunshine Law - or Attorney Brad Miller overstepped his authority - in announcing a Transition Plan upon Superintendent Stevensons being forced out - without any inclusion of Board Members Dahlkemper and Fellman, or any public discussion? Do you know about the board majoritys dismissal of the Community Budget Survey Results in their decision to designate $850,000 to G/T programs? as well as when they designated the $3.7 million to charter funding? and when they cut from staff budget suggestions $600,000 for Full Day K for the districts high At Risk students? You may believe you have seen everything you need to see from news reports or newspaper articles. Im here to say you have not. Unless you witness a Jeffco School Board meeting for yourself - the entire meeting - you have no appreciation for how things at Jeffco have changed. You will note, there are several links in this email to either Support Jeffco Kids or Transparency Jeffco. Both websites offer more information - but please check things out yourself. If you think things will simply play themselves out, be cautioned. These decisions by the board majority will ultimately take their toll on our countys reputation, and every city within the county. Ive had folks comment to me they have seen realtors and business people advise people to avoid Jefferson County in LinkedIn conversations. Without quality public schools, you have no quality communities!
