I refuse to accept my gold medal and certificate from the hands - TopicsExpress

I refuse to accept my gold medal and certificate from the hands of the Chancellor of Jadavpur University. I graduated this year from the Department of Comparative Literature. I looked forward to this day more than any other, from the very beginning of my journey as a student of JU. It has been a long while since then, however I feel the present situation in my university is not one which calls for celebration, of individual or collective glory. Dark clouds of ignorance, treachery and injustice are looming above each one of us, who is a present part of this institution. This medal is a specimen of my passion and love towards my subject. However, I CANNOT equate this sense of honour with the atrocities that have been committed on my fellow students on the night of 16th September, 2014 and the instances of injustice that have prevailed since then. I know it is not the Vice Chancellor(whom I absolutely reject as the VC of my institution) but the Chancellor from whom I am supposed to receive my medal. However, I feel, he has disregarded us, the students, the teachers and the very spirit of our movement. He has not been non partisan and just in his position, which apparently grants him the right to be the guardian of our institution. Our very esteemed and loved professors, and students have made repeated pleas to him, by explaining why Abhijit Chakraborty, fails to qualify for the position of the VC of our institution, but all to no avail. My grandmother really wanted to see me go up on stage and receive the token of honour, but I cannot fulfil her request which is nevertheless, of immense emotional worth to me. The times are such that we need to rise above individual desires and stop being selfish. and HOKKOLOROB has been a selfless movement, from the very beginning and will continue to be thus. I appeal all my fellow medal awardees not to accept it from the hands of the Chancellor. My salute to all my friends, juniors, seniors , teachers and every other sympathiser of our movement, who have endured this long trial and are continuing to carry on the struggle in the face of immense uncertainty. I feel proud to be a part of Jadavpur University and I will NOT let anyone who is against the very ideals of this institution take it away from me. For parties in power may come and go, but JU will go on forever. ps:You may say Im dreamer but I am not the only one and I KNOW JU will see the days of light once again, very soon. #hokkolorob Courtesy- Ranjamrittika Bhowmik
