I remember: 1) when there were only two phones in our house - one in the kitchen and one in my parents bedroom. You had to ASK permission to use the phone 2) when there was a morning AND evening paper - that was how you got your news. 3) waiting at home for an important phone call 4) having to rush to the bank before they closed or you wouldnt have any money. 5) my parents having only ONE car. My Dad took it to work. We walked everywhere. 6) going to the park unsupervised even when my baby brother was still in a stroller- wed take care of him 7) being able to walk to kindergarten alone when I was 5 - 8 blocks 8) having a milkman who delivered 9) my mother shopping at different stores for our food - she got our meat from a real butcher, bread from a real bakery and cold cuts from a real deli 10) network TV went off at 1am, and there was NOTHING on until 6am 11) if you got in trouble at school, you were in TWICE as much trouble at home. 12) the first one of my neighbors to get a color TV - it was a HUGE deal - the whole neighborhood came over to look at it. 13) people would cash a check for me because they knew my father 14) when the entire state of New Jersey had ONE area code 15) when a newly released movie would be in the theatre for MONTHS, and they would actually get it chance to see if word of mouth would increase sales 16) Our Catholic Church had at SEVEN Masses every weekend, and pretty much all of them were packed 17) You got dressed up to go to church 18) You got dressed up to go on a flight 19) NO ONE was divorced 20) Christmas decoration didnt appear until after Thanksgiving and promptly disappeared on Jan 1st. Wow. A completely different world - and one that is pretty much vanished.
