I remember ANZAC Day as a child 5 years old getting up at 0400 getting into my Salvation Army Uniform and going down to Wallsend RSL for the ANZAC March. Dad made some sort of device which was connected my instrument which was made of a 9 volt battery, 2 wires and a light bulb so we could see our music. This was then followed by a couple of other services then the last service was at around lunch time I think at Toronto RSL when at the end of the service the band was invited to go inside to have lunch and cold drinks. Except as children we were not allowed in so we had to wait outside whilst the rest of the band went in to enjoy the lunch that was prepared for them. Well that was then and looking back I am glad we had that experience and it was nothing to the sacrifice that our Diggers offered.
