I remember... It was a normal Tuesday. I was halfway listening to the news on the TV in the bedroom as I was getting ready for work in the bathroom. I heard a reporter with a panicky voice say, a plane has crashed into the World Trade Center, which drew me into the bedroom. As I was watching the shaky images on the screen, another plane hit the 2nd tower. My legs went limp, I knelt on the floor watching in horror & disbelief. Then the reporters started saying things like, terrorist attack. Fear took over my emotions. My daughter was in school. I called the school to get reassurance that everything was ok & asked the secretary to have my daughter call me. I then called my parents. My Mama was working, my Daddy answered the phone. He had been outside & hadnt heard yet. He rushed inside & I remember getting dressed in the silence as he watched his TV to catch up on what had just happened. He told me that he needed to call my Mama & would call me back. I was talking to my boyfriend at the time, listening to the radio while driving to work when we heard that the Pentagon had been hit also. (We would later find out that a friend of his had been killed in this attack.) I remember being relieved when my daughter called before I got to work & told me that she was ok & knew what happened because they were watching TV at school. My Daddy called me back as soon as I walked into my Merle Norman (still downtown at the time & we didnt have a TV in the store). I remember him crying as he told me he saw people jumping from the towers. He told me about the 4th plane that crashed in Pennsylvania & when the towers fell. He literally stayed on the phone with me all day keeping me informed of what was taking place. When I waited on customers, I would ask him to hold on & without hesitation, he would say, ok. I knew so many people had just lost their loved ones & I was thankful & comforted that he was on the other end of the line... I remember that we had tacos for dinner that night as we cried & watched the brave men & women trying to rescue the people who were trapped. #iremember #neverforget
