I remember Jerry, think he was on WCFL (which I think was the station that played The Bird for something like 24 hours when the station started up, anybody remember that?). This from the Svengooie newsletter: Another memorable moment from last month was the acknowledgement of the passing of my mentor and dear friend, the original Svengoolie, Jerry G. Bishop, as part of the “In Memoriam” segment on the national Grammy Awards broadcast. Jerry was included by his old friend, the show’s producer, Ken Ehrlich, in honor of his contributions, as a broadcaster, to the music industry- his work as host of the original version of the PBS concert series “Made In Chicago,” and as a radio correspondent touring with the Beatles on one of their American tours. I was always amazed to hear his stories of travelling with the Fab Four, enjoying down time with them (he even played pool with them!) and his collection of interviews with them done throughout the tour were used in a huge box set about the Beatles history. The memorial mention just underlined how many different aspects of our business Jerry was involved in, and COULD be involved in due to his versatility and talent. I am so proud to have been his protégé and his friend.
