I remember Raida and I taking the bus to Philly where the [1995] Northeast DMC Finals were being held. We couldn’t afford a hotel so we crashed with my good friend from Philly John “J.M.D.” Bailey. Raida came in second place to Philly native DJ Ghetto that night. Anyone reading this who knew Raida, like I did, can only imagine how heated he felt. Raida stormed out of the venue and vowed he wasn’t going to bother showing up for the USA Finals in NY. We were so accustomed to being cheated by judges who couldn’t appreciate what we were bringing to the art form in the past, it felt like history was repeating itself. I had to beg and plead with Raida to reconsider. It took about a full 24 hours to get him to see although we lost the battle, the war was still yet to be won. So it was on to the American DMC Finals in our home turf. Needless to say, Raida won like I knew he would. We finally did it.
