I remember a couple years before moving to Nashville, when I was coming out to do show performances on the Nashville Television Network (TNN) with Jim Ed Brown, Jimmy Dickens was doing a show not too far from my home town and mom wanted me to meet Jimmy now that I was all grown up. He hadnt seen any of us kids since when he visited the family in the Philippines where my dad was stationed and were Jimmy was doing a USO show, which was a few years after mom had left the Opry to marry my military dad. When mom and I went to see Jimmy, he and his band were performing on the flatbed of a semi truck out in the country by a corn field. During the show, before I was about to meet him for the first time, he performed this particular recitation of his that he is so well known for. This was the first time I had ever seen Jimmy perform Raggedy Ann. It broke me toward the end when I heard that break in his voice. I believe he felt that song every time he did it. They dont make performers like this man anymore. Meeting him that first time was one of the high points in my life. A towering figure in my mind at 4 foot 11. -------------------------------------------------------- https://youtube/watch?v=CxDgBSg-dgo
