I remember being accosted at a wedding about a year ago by an elderly gentleman who asked me what I did for a living. I said somewhat diffidently that I was a consultant. I could see that this immediately downgraded my standing in his eyes by several notches. Nonetheless this gent fixed me with a stern eye and bellowed And what do you consult in, young man?, even though I had completed my 48th birthday by then. I replied that I offered training and consulting in statistical methods, and foolishly ventured to say that even though I had an advanced chemical engineering degree, I was only a part time statistician. Upon hearing this, the old man said that this was PRECISELY what was wrong with this great country of ours - everyone was doing everything part time, including the Prime Minister (it was Mouni baba at that time, remember?) So here I was about six weeks ago browsing through the various programs in the online platform Coursera when I came across Experimentation for Improvement by Kevin Dunn of McMaster University. This is a Statistical Design of Experiments program, and I have actually taught this at many companies. I thought I knew quite a bit about it, but signed up nevertheless. I was thrilled, and humbled to see this program - Prof Dunn has used very simple examples to explain very profound concepts, and I want to utilize this forum to recommend this program to anyone who is interested in understanding the principles of experimental design. I am now in my fifth week, and thoroughly enjoying every bit. You can find more details here: https://coursera.org/course/experiments
