I remember exactly where I was on this date 37 years ago. I was - TopicsExpress

I remember exactly where I was on this date 37 years ago. I was playing drums on a session at the Oak Ridge Boys studio when my dad called me and told me Elvis had died. Growing up seeing him at gospel concerts in Memphis and then being a part of his show for two years in the mid-seventies, I had grown to love the man. To this day I grieve the loss and remember how deeply his death affected me as do so many on this anniversary of his death in 1977. His admiration of and friendship to the Blackwood Brothers has been well documented. He chartered a plane to bring the group to Memphis to sing for his mothers funeral. I recall the night my dad and I drove out to Graceland so he could show my dad his new daughter, Lisa Marie. I can still see him walking down the staircase from upstairs with Lisa in his arms. A proud dad. I miss him to this day and hope to see him again. And before you recoil at the theological proposition of Elvis being in Heaven, consider the thief on the cross, the woman at the well, and our own lives, unworthy of and yet trusting in the grace of God.
