I remember, four years ago, the very first Pandora and The Locksmiths show at Guilt & Company. I was twenty three, and Id been doing burlesque for a year and a half. We went into the show excited, nervous, with no idea that soon one show would turn into forty nine shows in that venue, not including straight music gigs there. I remember the people in the audience, and being nervous that I was putting on a show that people I considered my mentors were attending. But excited. And totally game. We were practically babies at the time- we all had a solid wealth of experience in voice, or dancing, or acting, or music, but not all put together with the added element of a burlesque production. There were only five of us ladies- Carole Brunette, Amber Rose, MissFitt Go-Go, and myself. Jessica Sheck was digging in her heels (it didnt last long, as you are aware of) and had said at that point I just dont know how much I could contribute right now... (HAHAHA! HA! HA!!! Didnt know how much she could contribute!! How about SO MUCH!). There were six ladies if you count Jody Bowen. And you should. We sure do. One show turned into three, turned into a year, turned into four years. A four piece band grew to be a six piece. Five ladies turned into nine, then 11... Ava Lure, Ruthe Ordare, August Wiled, Jacqueline Breakwell. Then Ariel Hel Vetica and Laura June. You just find your pack- or they find you and you wonder where theyve been your whole life. Last night, in my heart, was perfection. It was our biggest show that we have ever done as as a group, with everyone contributing to the show on multiple levels and making the whole thing run smoothly, no matter the fact that it was two and a half hours worth of material. Last night was also bittersweet. In its perfection, show number 49 at Guilt&Co was the final show in our monthly series there. As much as the end of an era can leave us feeling nostalgic and with the inclination to hold onto what weve built, last night it felt just right to leave off. Like this last year has been the Coda; twelve months of us honing our ferocity on stage and as a group, and finally resolving in our most brilliant spectacle to date. We are so, so, so very grateful for having been allowed to create four years worth of entertainment at Guilt. Its been like performing in our own secret underground jazz cellar for our favourite people, month after month. Its done so much for us as artists, its unreal. Love. We are excited for the changes coming up- our next big show is at The Hotel Vancouver on Friday, October 31st for Halloween. And thats just the beginning. Stay tuned for the official launch of the next generation of our monthly series at the Fox Cabaret. Its coming. Were coming for you. ;) Cheers to all of you. Thank you. Words cannot express. Though, as you can see from what youve read in this status, Ive certainly tried my darndest!
