I remember growing up in a single parent home with a strong mother - TopicsExpress

I remember growing up in a single parent home with a strong mother of six children. Often times, there wasnt much help around (especially a constant, good male figure) to be an example to my siblings and I. However, my mother did her best to provide everything we need and sometimes our wants were met along the way. There were times when things became difficult for us to the extent of her selling bottles and what ever else she could find that we might have food to eat. She would do things, both, spoken and unspoken just to provide our basic needs (such as placing a roof over our heads, keeping cloth on our backs, and putting food on the table). Looking back, Im amazed at how she did it. I now understand her formula to achievement that lifted her over the years. Prayer! Its how we made it through time and time again. Fast forward. I grew up and came to America years later. While struggling to make it within this land of opportunities, I ended up homeless. There were times I would sleep on peoples front porch and upgraded to a shelter. Fast forward a little further ahead. Today, my daughter and I are participating in a community outreach mission to help cloth and feed the homeless dwelling downtown San Diego. Well meet twice a month to serve them. The purpose of introducing my daughter to this type of service is multifaceted. I want my daughter to realize and always remember how blessed (privileged) she is to enjoy the life she does. Another reason would be that I want her to always remain humble and have compassion in her heart for the less fortunate. I want her to see and understand where her mother was not long ago--only to know how faithful God is and what He can do in enhancing ones life via the right resources. As for me, this served as a constant reminder of where I came from, where I could have still been, and where I could possibly find myself once again. Life is full of uncertainties and has a way of shaking us up at times. So, today, I encourage you to help someone if youre able to because you never know what life holds in the future. Feed someone who is in need. Dont shy away from those who are homeless, but rather talk with and embrace them. Give what you can to them without a reluctant heart or haughty spirit--be a blessing without any guarantees of merit or recognition. Thats how you can help! #SaluteTenderLove&Care #ConsiderAllPeople #LendAHandYearAround Like, Share Comment & invite others to like this page..XoXo
