I remember having a conversation with one of my brothers on this topic when I was 15 and he was 12. He and the boys on his baseball team called each other girl as an insult, and like a girl was widely used by the boys to tease one another. I recall having a visceral reaction to it each time I heard it. I dont know if he got it at the time, (and I am sure I didnt even fully understand why I felt the to address it with him back then) but I know that as an elementary school PE teacher he does all he can to build confidence in the girls in his classes.
