I remember in 2004 entering the Gentle Hands building for assistance with our visa renewal. They were the ministry that sponsored the Milliers ministry in the Philippines, on behalf of Israel. Anyway, it was pouring rain when I entered the building in Project 4, Cubao -- a rough neighborhood. When I exited the building, maybe an hour and a half later, the water was knee high in the streets. I was wearing leather dress shoes, dress slacks, shirt, tie, and had a briefcase. I took off the shoes and socks, rolled up the pants, and stepped out into the flooded street ... and promptly stepped into an open manhole that couldnt be seen due to the water. I was completely immersed. Everything I was carrying went up in the air then down into the river. Thankfully my knee wasnt hyper-extended. No damage. But the people around watching the foreigner fall in the water snickered and laughed ... even as some helped me catch my getaway briefcase, shoes, and socks. Seeing it from their point of view, I started laughing too. It was my baptism into Philippines flooding.
