I remember last I had an opportunity to sit as a judge in a debate - TopicsExpress

I remember last I had an opportunity to sit as a judge in a debate hosted by the Siyabuswa library. Learners from Somkhahlekwa and Buhlebethu verbally battled it out. The most interesting thing about the debate was that learners from Somkhahlekwa debated in IsiNdebele, their opponents from uBuhlebethu debated in English. The debate was won by learners from Somkhahlekwa. I had to explain to the crowd why Somkhahlekwa won. Frankly I told them that the language used matters not, the facts do. You can be fluent in English, you can use big words and terrify your audience but facts count. English is not and will never be a measure of IQ. No I was not proving a point neither was I paying allegience to the school I attended by swaying victory on their favor. On the panel I was with Mr Mulemisi (forgive me for the spelling) he agreed with me. Mara labantwana be Buhlebethu basangi zonda na today
