I remember like yesterday, the case of embezzlement in the pension - TopicsExpress

I remember like yesterday, the case of embezzlement in the pension agency. The people involved were arraigned before the court, the judge was ready to grant them bail after spending some days in kuje prisons. The judge gave conditions for the bail, one if those listed conditions was that their sureties must have a landed property in Maitama main, Abuja, the property must occupy a space of 2500sqm exact, and must have Agis certificate of occupancy. The judge was exact and specific! He knew it wont be easy to have such property in Maitama main. Then the brief was thrown into the property market, calls were coming from all over,Lagos, portharcourt, Abuja colleagues, men falling over each other, sourcing for the property, some even camped outside some assumed properties in Maitama, so they can get to speak with the occupants. Ironically few of my friends that are accusing president Jonathan today if not fighting corruption were on top of the brief. My question was/is if they knew these men were corrupt and stole from the government why were they spending their money, wasting their time trying to get the required properties for your bail? When I heard about the brief, I muttered to myself, if am the only estate surveyor around, they will rot in jail. Luckily my boss shared same sentiment with me. Until, we begin to tell ourselves the truth concerning corruption in Nigeria, we wont win this war. Until, we begin to fight it in our small areas of operation, it wont go away, until we stand up, with our heads high and publicly refuse to indulge directly or indirectly,or encourage, directly or in directly, until we begin to teach our children to be contended with what they have, until we stop unnecessary unhealthy competition of who has the best car or have the perfect mansion, until we uphold decency n morality against grab mentality, until we hold our leaders;starting from councilman to presidents accountable, until we uphold hard work against quick wealth, until we fear and respect God in all our works, until we do all these and much more, corruption is not leaving us anytime soon, if u like bring idi amin to rule. No one is a saint in this matter, and its our collective job to fight corruption.
