I remember my earliest efforts at identifying mushrooms very - TopicsExpress

I remember my earliest efforts at identifying mushrooms very clearly, even though that was so long ago. I so enthusiastically studied the first field guide that I had* that when I found certain kinds for the first time, I already knew their names. Some, I was especially excited to find because they were highly regarded as choice edibles: my first morel, my first chanterelle, my first black trumpet, my first Grifola, my first Hericium. Others, I was excited to find just because they were so cool: Crinipellis, Auriscalpium, Gyromitra, Cryptoporus, Amanita muscaria. In either category, I remember to this day where my first find of each was. Oh, to be a novice once again and experience all that beginners excitement anew! * - Orson K.
