I remember not so long ago when the JLP was in power, the media - TopicsExpress

I remember not so long ago when the JLP was in power, the media were constantly reporting that the policies of the government under the then Minister of Agriculture was recording agricultural productivity of unprecedented levels. I constantly asked then how this was not reflected in the prices my wife paid in the market, or seen reflected in foreign exchange earnings. The silence was deafening. I am surprised (well not really), that the Gleaner is now asking Minister of Industry and Investment, Anthony Hylton to “Show us the money.” Not at all saying that this is wrong, but wonder why what is good for the goose is not good for the gander. I am also bemused that the Minister is being reminded of something in the past but we hear no such reminder when the Gleaner is reporting Dr. Lorne and other like him to in effect to defy the Americans and institute our own ganja laws, which could have devastating effects on our country. I guess nobody doubts that if the world was fair this would be great for us….not so though for the Goat Island project which would not be stepping on anybody’s corn, except for the environmentalists and others whose agenda might be inimical to the interest of this country. I have seen in recent days the power of the media, when even one of their own was brought to his knees because he reportedly interfered with how they should operate. I think with these awesome powers should come RESPONSIBILITY which demands fair and equal treatment for all in the presentation of the news. There is far too much editorializing in media in even what should be straight news stories, and the myriads of ways that they can use to be unfair. Is there no watchdog for the media?
