I remember speaking to someone about the use of digital non-verbal tone to highlight what the reader cannot interpret through sound in a social media conversation and have him laugh it off as *Cath being a Bit of a Dick. While we joke about the winking emoji, love it or not, it serves its purpose in stating the obvious ... when something in writing is not necessarily obvious without it. We need visual mediums to backup verbal, or its only Half the picture. Its a bit like showing your fanny in a skirt that is too short but in fashion when you are over 50. Its screaming to everyone that you are trying to visually lengthen your legs.
