I remember the day that personnel were ordered to the Ellsworth - TopicsExpress

I remember the day that personnel were ordered to the Ellsworth Air Force Base Tarmac for the evening lowering of the American Flag. There were hundreds of us in our class A blues standing at attention and wondering why because this was not normal procedure. I don’t remember who it was that stood at the podium but he was a high ranking individual who gave a speech about how proud we should be for serving in the greatest air power in the world. We were called to attention as the flag begin it’s short journey down the flag pole. As we stood with sweat dripping down our foreheads, one of the most powerful images I have ever seen occurred. Our eyes focussed beyond the flag and onto a low flying formation of jets. Ellsworth was a bomber wing and fighters were not normally around but these babies were so low and fast we knew we were in for a special treat. At the moment the flag reached the bottom of the pole, the Thunderbirds blasted over the top of the pole directly over my head. I have never in my life been more proud than I was at that moment of belonging to an organization. HAPPY BIRTHDAY USAF! https://youtube/watch?v=5cxjzR8dx9A
