I remember the evening that my wife and mother-in-law took turns yelling at me for the number one thing they said they disliked about me. My wife said, You never listen to anything I say. No matter how important it is you dont pay attention to me. I tell you things all the time and you never listen to me. And then my mother-in-law said, Its the same way with me. I bet Ive told you 1000 times to do something and you never hear a single word I say. And then my wife said, listening to each other is the foundation of a good relationship. For example, yesterday I came home crying because I got into an argument with a girl at work. And I talked for 45 minutes to you about what happened, and I dont think you heard a single word I said. And then my mother-in-law said, You see what I mean? This is exactly the thing that causes so many problems with my daughter and I! And I looked up from the TV set and said, what? I was served the divorce papers that next morning.
