I remember the mission Sandra Bullocks character was based upon in Gravity; Katharine Thornton, STS-61, Hubble service mission one, Endeavor, 1991. It was an all star crew of the best we had with the least experienced astronaut already having two flights. She and Story Musgrave commanded the EVA and all the repairs. She replaced the solar arrays on the second day of EVA. I remember watching her release them, flipping them end over end, so their orbit would decay and they would burn up on re-entry. On the fourth day she installed the corrective optics. At the time only Story Musgrave had more EVA time and he was the other EVA team leader. His team on the first, third, and fifth days, her team on the second and fourth. She was a natural at working in space on the end of the arm. This is the real deal.
