I remember, the sheds at the end of the Quay, with its distinctive sounds and smells, cattle boats rising, as the mighty Suir swells. Inside, were its black and white patrons with a nodding head, unknowingly boarding boats to the land of the dead. I remember, the Ardree Hotel, stories told by my parents, of dances and dates, and great nights with their mates. Now, the hotel is all clad in white and nobody stays there over night. I remember, the old Redmond Bridge at the end of the town, when lorries traveled over it, the center span moved up and down. I remember the railway station and its black and white floor, it brought a great overwhelming need to explore. Entry to the platform, just for a look, is no longer free, and the trains have long stopped traveling to the Lee. I remember, my Grandmother of whom I held dear, she lived under New Church bell for many a year. At her door she would stand, her neighbours shed greet, while little Jimmy Finn passed by sweeping the street. My Grandmother has long since gone, but my memories of her continue on, on and on. Something is different about my great City, I dont what, but i know its loss, is a great pity. One thing I know for sure, that my memories and stories of old, will always be retold, retold retold. Have pride in our city and those gone before.
