I remember when I was walking to DC back in 2011, I was by myself and in a rural wooded area of Georgia when I heard a dog barking about 100 yards back in the forest. I knelt down and looked past the tree trunks and could just see tips of color. Curiosity got the better of me, as often happens, and I began to walk toward them. Very soon I found myself in the middle of a town of tents - maybe 30. Little children and a few dogs were running around, mothers were washing clothes in tubs, old men sat in front of their tents reading or talking with others. I realized immediately that this was a homeless city, but before I could excuse myself and let them be, a little girl around 5-years-old ran up to me and handed me a bottle of water and then an elderly man across the way took a cigarette from behind his ear and pointed it in my direction, silently offering me relief with the little that he had. I waved to him no, but thank you, and gave the child the trail mix I was carrying. Then I walked back to the road, a little more humble, and feeling sorta blessed to have seen that. All these cars would go past, and if I hadnt been walking and the dog hadnt barked, I would never had known they were there. They had nothing really, but embraced me from the second I trespassed upon them. What a contrast to the university I visited later, asked to use the restroom, and even though I had permission was met by the police as I walked out. The people who have the least give the most, thats for sure. This video is a symptom of a compassionless society, its sickening, the idea that someone only has value if they have the right amount and type of things. Evolution before revolution, thats whats needed...
