I remember when getting a child up and ready for the day meant - TopicsExpress

I remember when getting a child up and ready for the day meant making sure he got dressed, ate breakfast, brushed his teeth, grabbed his lunch and caught the bus on time. Simple - but that child was our first - boy oh boy we didnt know how easy we had it. *****along came Super Chase - and the morning routines have drastically changed. Im not complaining just really reflecting on how drastically things changed - and how impressed with how it has just become our new normal. Super Chase starts his day (while he is still sleeping) with his thyroid, reflux, and seizure meds - thank goodness for gj tubes - he sleeps right through it. Then its unhooking TPN - saline flushes, heparin or ethanol, and Curos caps. Next its the mitrofanoff and removing the overnight foley - measuring and charting output - taking his temp, taking his BP and giving high blood pressure, bladder and more seizure meds. Now we change the gj tube dressing - clean out the mitrofanoff, and change his diaper. NOW - we get him dressed, brush his teeth - put his braces on and now we are ready for the day. The routines sure have changed - hes not off to school on the bus - we homeschool - but no longer are we rushing off to work either. Our routines are sure different - but theres nothing wrong with different. I still sometimes think about how naive we were before Super Chase - and how much we took for granted. Life can throw you a curve ball but you can still knock it out of the park. Heres to the parents catching or hitting their own curve balls. We may be on different teams but we are all in the same league. Virtual high fives!!
