I remember when i was in the first grade. My mama came to pick me - TopicsExpress

I remember when i was in the first grade. My mama came to pick me up after school. She was trying to hold back tears, our dog Butchie in her arms. I asked her what was wrong. President Kennedy was killed. She laid her head on the steering wheel of the 1964 Ford. I didnt understand at that time what a Presidential assassination was. but day after day Walter Cronkite chronicled each moment. As a child, I was scared because my parents were scared. It was horrifying to know that someone killed our president. Now in this day and age I see things on Facebook about killing President Obama. Im almost as scared now as I was back then. Like it or not, he was elected. Like it or not he is President of the United States and its not just egregious to make those statements but UNAmerican I didnt vote for George W. but he was elected He was our president. I respected him and the office he held. What kind of society have we become when we have no respect for the President of the United States? Is it really in our countrys best interest to say we want out President DEAD? Are we truly that divided as a nation? We can be our own worst enemies sometimes. We dont need to fly a plane into the Pentagon to cause harm, were doing a good job on our own, division lends itself to weakness. We complain about everything in a country that has everything. A country that has given us liberties other countries only dream of. Our distrust of everyone unlike ourselves has led to hatred, suspicion and divided us. Not one of us has the same history but we have one thing in common... we are all children of immigrants. Think back to the day when JFK was killed by a lunatic in Dallas, Texas. Just remember and not allow history to repeat itself.
