I remember when, in an 8th grade social studies class, I first heard about the evils of business monopolies, except of course in those cases when it was necessary for the government to declare certain businesses as natural monopolies, and actually prevent any competitors from entering their markets. Well, I wasnt very sophisticated about such ideas back then, and I just accepted the teachers arguments about them without question. Now of course I understand the logic behind that necessity for utility monopolies and why Im not able to use my T-Mobile cell phone to call my friends who have Verizon phones, and why if I were to install solar panels on my house, I would have to disconnect from the electric grid operated in my area by Arizona Public Service.
