I remember when my old pastor asked the question, Why do women in the church outnumber men 3 to 1? This was about three or four years ago If I can recall. Besides some of the stereotypical answers you have all heard, I have a new one. Yesterday I was invited to the mosque to hear Farrakhan speak live from Jamaica. Although Ive read up on the NOI and have seen plenty of Farrakhan lectures, Ive never been to a mosque. And all I can say is that I see why brothers would want to become a part of the Nation of Islam. Its not for me but I see why brothers get intrigued. The NOI appeals to black manhood from the time you come through the door till you leave. Every single day in this society black males are bombarded verbally, visually and subliminally with what they CANT do, where they CANT go, what they CANT have and what they CANT achieve. It kills self esteem. But when these black males go to the mosque they hear what they CAN do, where they CAN go, what they CAN have and what they CAN achieve. You may not agree with their religious beliefs but you got to give them credit for the social work they are doing in reforming the black man. If the black church appealed to black manhood like the NOI of Islam did you wouldnt see a 3 to 1 ratio. If anything the black church should be working with them and getting proper training on how to draw these young black men in and help them live in this society as MEN. When black men come to church all you hear is Turn the other cheek, love those who despitefully use you, etc. Pretty much teaching black men how to be submissive, not to God but basically to everybody else. So automatically black men have a hard time getting into service and would rather be somewhere drinking beer watching the football game. The pastors dont see it that way and neither do some of them care. You gotta excuse me but I believe its downright ridiculous for black churches to have a Save the World program/ideology when you have black men on the streets who need to be reformed. We should be focused on helping ourselves FIRST. But the first thing Negroes say, Jesus loved everybody. But Jesus helped HIS OWN PEOPLE FIRST before He went abroad with His teachings.
